Every year, Healthgrades recognizes hospitals that go above and beyond to provide a best-in-class healthcare experience as recipients of the Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. This year’s honorees include an elite group of facilities across 44 states, representing the top 15% of hospitals nationwide for overall patient experience. 

Understanding the Outstanding Patient Experience Award

Using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data, Healthgrades evaluates eligible hospitals on ten critical patient experience measures, ranging from communication about medication and cleanliness to noise levels and staff responsiveness. Healthgrades’ analysis revealed that three factors best predict whether a patient will recommend a hospital to their loved ones:*

• Nurse communication
• Clear communication when discharged

Prioritizing clear, consistent communication amid chronic supply shortages and razor-thin margins is no easy feat. As a result, many health systems have experienced substantial declines in patient satisfaction since the pandemic began, which makes this achievement all the more impressive.
