Healthcare Professionals Share Inspiring Stories about Physicians Around the Country

By Healthgrades Staff

As part of the Healthgrades National Doctors’ Day Sweepstakes, healthcare professionals are sharing stories about the physicians with whom they work. These stories spotlight the compassionate and diligent work of providers across the country. In anticipation of National Doctor’s Day on March 30, preview some of these stories:

Timothy Watson, MD, Mission Pediatrics, California
“Dr. Watson focuses on the experience of each patient he receives, and they see that in every detail during visits, from our cabin-themed offices to magic shows patients see during their time with him. Dr. Watson also spends weeks filming comedic videos every year to bring awareness to the importance of vaccines, office etiquette, patient wait times and more. We get children daily who watch his videos in the waiting room and then whisper to their parents, ‘There’s the guy in the movie!’ when they see him.”

Larisse Lee, MD, L.A. Vein Center, California
“Dr. Lee is one of the best doctors I have had the pleasure of working with. She came to the U.S. from Korea at age four, and her family worked day-and-night to give her and her two brothers a better life. Dr. Lee received her education from Stanford University and Harvard University, and she is board certified in both Vascular Surgery and General Surgery. She also founded the L.A. Vein Center. I am so proud to work with a great surgeon that gets exceptional results for her patients.”

Ali Oliashirazi, MD, Marshall Health, West Virginia
“Dr. Oliashirazi is a professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. He is also the vice dean for business development and external affairs at the School of Medicine. He takes a personal interest in encouraging and cheering his patients. ‘Humble’ and ‘kind’ would be my words to describe him. Once, when leaving a lecture where he was the main speaker, he was seen over-thanking the servers and the staff who had prepared the room and dinner while offering to help them.”

Kamran Shamsa, MD, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, California
“Dr. Kamran Shamsa does not treat his patients like numbers but as family. It is not surprising that he is a cardiologist, since he has the biggest heart of anyone I know. When a patient of his needed surgery, and it looked like the insurance company wasn’t going to pay for it, he spent all day on the phone and email until he was able to talk to the president of the insurance company and got him to sign off on it. Later on, he would attend that same patient’s college graduation.”

Marc Kerner, MD, FACS, Dermatique Medical Center for Advanced Skincare, Inc., California
“I have worked with and known Dr. Kerner for more than 20 years. He is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology for Head and Neck Surgery and by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I have seen him save countless lives, and he is the most compassionate and caring doctor I have known. Ask any of his patients, and they will tell you he is the best. Almost everyone on his staff has been with him for more than 10 years. He truly is the best doctor who will go the extra mile for his patients, family and friends.”
